There are times when you hear a story and feel the need to drop everything and talk about it. I have done this many times and have a collection of such stories. This one is about a man who created an electronic Bible application out of a love for God and His words:
Denys Dolganenko
His example inspired others to join him in his effort to spread the word of God. One of those men was Oleg Safonov.
Denys is Ukrainian
Oleg is Russian
Let that sink in…

When Heroes Walk Among Us
I have met too many heroes.
You might imagine that as a strange thing to say, but most do not understand what a ‘hero’ goes through. And, there are some stories that are so awful that I cannot even think of them without tears in my eyes, knowing what happened to them and how they still suffer.
To lose everything, suffer terribly in unimaginable ways, but still move forward, that’s the stuff of heroism. And, when that heroism is about service to God, it brings the definition to a whole new level. And there are true heroes of God who walk among us. And, there are two that my wife introduced me to that I had no idea existed.
Denys Dolganenko and Oleg Safonov
Denys is a Ukrainian programmer from the city of Kharkiv, a city that Russia completely destroyed. The pictures of what the Russian army did to that city and her residents are shocking. The destruction of Kharkiv is war crime, but unfortunately one of so many that Russia has committed, that we would be here all day if I chose to list them all.
Oleg is Russian, from Moscow. He’s a military veteran of the Soviet Union and hopefully still lives in Moscow.
These are two Godly men on opposite sides of a truly unjust war. Yet, they are brothers in Christ and continue to serve God in the midst of impossible odds. And, I had no idea that this was the story behind their MyBible application.
When Mrs. Little told me a couple days ago that she loves this application more than any other, and that she has installed it on every Android phone she’s owned, I knew that I had to look into it for myself.
I also am making Android apps, and you can find them here:
https://revelationsix.com/android-apps/
And, in the Google PlayStore, here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/dev?id=9047016415535865545
My purpose and design philosophy is very different from MyBible. My focus for each app is extreme simplicity, as long as it does the one job I give it. Just tap and go. But, you can’t really do that with a ‘study app’ like MyBible – especially one that seeks to share the Bible across the world – to every tongue and nation.
Even better, MyBible is free with no ads – just like mine are.
For Android phone users, you can get their app here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ua.mybible
For iPhone and iPad, you can get the app here:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mybible/id1166291877
A Bible app that is truly free with no ads always makes me sit up and take notice. And, when I dug into the story behind this app, my appreciation for these two men grew and grew. They aren’t in it for the money. They even refuse all donations. And, every single member of their team is dedicated to serving God in any way that they can.
My hope is that they and their children have been able to stay out of this terrible war. Their latest Android release was on Mar 31, 2023, so it looks like they’ve been able to avoid the violence. Far too many have not been so fortunate. Unfortunately, their latest iOS release was on September 3, 2022.
Artur Ponomarenko is Ukrainian and also from Kharkiv. He’s the lead developer of MyBible for Apple iOS (taking over from Serhii Maksymenko), and I hope that he’s okay. Artur is in his early 20s, so he has probably been given a uniform and sent off to defend his country. I pray that he returns safely, of sound mind and body. War does things to people, things that only God can heal.
Artur Ponomarenko
Even at the best of times, war is a terrible thing, but what Putin did in launching this one is evil beyond belief. There are Christians on both sides caught in impossible situations, without hope except for their faith in Christ. But, the Christians in Ukraine are suffering the worst.
Pray for our brothers and sisters who are suffering and dying. And, may God forgive us for not caring about their plight.

I also will reject you… Hosea 4:6
